Previously aired on BET from 2010 to 2019, the upcoming event is set to be recorded live in Atlanta on June 27th and will premiere later this fall on Lifetime. This revival comes as a beacon of empowerment, as the Black Girls Rock! Awards have long been committed to inspiring, uplifting, and celebrating Black women and girls since its inception in 2006.

According to a recent press release, the award show has been a driving force in amplifying the voices of Black women and girls through various platforms, including content creation, advocacy efforts, and engaging discussions on critical issues. Its mission is to honor the contributions of trailblazers, entertainers, icons, community activists, business leaders, and emerging stars within the Black community.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, founder Beverly Bond shared her vision on Instagram, stating, “I created Black Girls Rock because I recognized that the condition of black girls could only change when we are the authors of our own stories.” Bond’s dedication to empowering Black women has been evident throughout the years, with Black Girls Rock! serving as a vital platform for showcasing their achievements and resilience.

The choice of Atlanta as this year’s host city holds particular significance, as highlighted by Bond in a press release, stating, “Atlanta’s vibrant cultural heritage provides the ideal backdrop for our celebration.” She emphasized the city’s pivotal role in shaping the narrative of Black excellence and expressed enthusiasm for the event’s return to television screens.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement over the city’s selection as the host for the 2024 Black Girls Rock! Awards. He emphasized Atlanta’s influence as a cultural hub and its suitability as the setting for such a historic and influential occasion, affirming the city’s commitment to celebrating Black excellence.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming awards ceremony, the revival of Black Girls Rock! on television represents not only a celebration of achievement but also a reaffirmation of the importance of representation and empowerment for Black women and girls everywhere.
