Florida A&M University’s President, Dr. Larry Robinson, is set to continue his remarkable leadership journey as the Florida Board of Governors (FLBOG) announced a one-year extension of his term through December 31, 2024. This extension, recommended by the FAMU Board of Trustees, reaffirms Dr. Robinson’s pivotal role in driving FAMU to achieve outstanding accomplishments.

During a meeting held at Florida State University, the FLBOG, responsible for overseeing the State University System institutions, deliberated on President Robinson’s leadership and significant contributions. Kristin Harper, Chair of FAMU’s Board of Directors, expressed her appreciation in a letter to the FLBOG, highlighting Dr. Robinson’s instrumental role in the university’s five-year strategic plan, “Boldly Striking.” FAMU proudly maintains its position as the highest-ranked public historically black college and university for the fifth consecutive year.

Under Dr. Robinson’s stewardship, FAMU has reached remarkable milestones, currently ranking No. 91 among National Public Universities, according to US News & World Report’s 2023-2024 Best Colleges. Chair Harper’s letter underscores FAMU’s commitment to social mobility, positively impacting the lives of students, families, and communities for generations.

“FAMU remains a leader within the State University System in affordability and providing access to first-generation and low-income students,” Harper wrote. “The University ascended to No. 21 on Top Performers among national universities in Social Mobility, the truest indicator of our ability to alter the economic trajectory of students, families, and communities for generations to come.”

Dr. Larry Robinson expressed his gratitude to FAMU Trustees for their support and said, “I am honored and thankful for the opportunity to continue moving the University forward.” During the meeting, the FLBOG also approved a resolution honoring FAMU’s football team for their victories in the 2023 Celebration Bowl and the HBCU National Championship, adding to the university’s remarkable success story under President Robinson’s leadership.

President Robinson commended the collaborative efforts of the university’s faculty, staff, and supporters, recognizing their integral role in FAMU’s rise in national rankings and positive branding. The unanimous approval of the contract renewal by the FLBOG demonstrates their confidence in Dr. Robinson’s leadership as FAMU continues its pursuit of excellence in education and community impact.
